Buffalo National River

A Weekend on the Buffalo National River by Brad Denman

It was a beautiful weekend on the Buffalo National River. We had the opportunity to spend time with the Buffalo River National Park Service for the first ever Buffalo River Biathlon and Trail Run.

Let me just say....we loved every minute of it.

Spending any day on the Buffalo is one of my favorite things. But seeing all the fall colors and the blue green water made this trip extra special. We had the great pleasure of floating Spring Creek to Buffalo Point with one of the park rangers, as well as a few people from the Arkansas Department of Parks and Tourism.

Touring the river with a park ranger could be our new favorite way to travel. I also got to take my mom and dad on their first Buffalo float trip for their 29th anniversary.

The race was a huge success for its first year. About 200 people ran 6 miles on the Buffalo River Trail to Spring Creek access point and then paddled 5 miles down the river to Dillard's Ferry.

It was the best day. The National Park Service let us set up our booth right next to the river. I mean we were three steps from the water. No better way to spend the day supporting runners and paddlers.

We can't wait to head back to the Buffalo for late fall and winter camping and float trips. The Buffalo River National Park Service was so wonderful to us. We can't thank them enough for showing us all the park has to offer. But there was so much to see in so little time. We are already planning our next trip.

We stopped at the Marshall Scenic Overlook to soak in the last gorgeous view of the mountains, and we grabbed a couple of iced coffees from Rock 'N Java. Don't miss out on the coffee and view.

It's totally worth it.

Until next time,
